Brief Reviews: And it will cost you. A lot of money for very little value. Financial accountablility is sketchy (sometimes you get at bill, sometimes they miss sending one, then when you get another bill your retainer has less money in it and you can't figure out why. And you don't really ever get a straight answer. And if you do, it doesn't match your notes). Staff is inadequate and poorly trained--they had trouble putting boilerplate motions together. I provided full information for them to "fill in the blanks", and they still got it wrong. And returned the same documents with the same mistakes after I requested corrections. Timeliness is lacking--timing on filings is critical in a divorce. They did not take timing seriously at all. It was pretty much when they got around to it, and if they didn't see you as top earnings potential, they put you at the bottom of their list of things to do. Advice is irrelevant--the man is a drama queen. Although his advertising says he is also a mediator, don't you believe it! One of the reasons I chose him was because I knew my divorce had the potential for mediation and negotiated terms. He just wasn't interested in doing that. If you're not looking for a big, drawn out trial where he can show off his argumentation skills (and of course get the mega-fees that go along with it), you are shuffled to his "other-to do later" pile. Advice is absent--I don't know if he was listening when I asked questions. There are just some you shouldn't have to ask. I hired a lawyer to look out for my best interest, but it wasn't until after my divorce, for example, that I found out from ANOTHER lawyer that I could not re-open the custody and support terms for THREE YEARS. A critical piece of information that he never told me. One that would have influenced just about every decision I made. One of many critical pieces of information omitted. Inadequate experience outside of Harris county--my divorce was in Montgomery county and although he claimed he could represent me there, he had no real concept of "how things work" out there in the country. I was able to consult (by the hour--no retainer required) with a REAL lawyer before I went to court, who was on top of everything in the final draft AS SHE WAS READING IT , so I know there are good divorce lawyers out there. Finding them will take some digging. Start by knowing who NOT to hire. Here is your opportunity to learn from someone else's mistake--AVOID TREY YATES!!!

Brief Reviews: I had an auto accident in July 2006, where a drunk driver hit me on the freeway and was convicted for his crime. I immediately went to Smith and Hassler for help. After accepting my case and making me sign all these legal documents, THEY NEVER RETURN MY CALLS OR EMAILS. I was being forwarded to "my lawyer's" voicemail time and time again 6 MONTHS AFTER HE HAD LEFT THE FIRM!!!!! This case should have been an open-shut case, but I still have medical bills pending AND I HAD TO RESOLVE GETTING MY CAR REPAIRED AND OBTAINING A RENTAL CAR. My car insurance GEICO was more helpful during this troublesome time than MY LAWYER! I WOULD STONGLY NOT RECOMMEND GOING TO SMITH AND HASSLER FOR HELP!!!
