Brief Reviews: I had hired Ms. Schleifer to oversee my divorce, but her performance was disappointing. I had discussed my case with her and sent her a retainer expecting her to file on my behalf. She delayed the filing, and my husband was able to serve me first complete with terms that included full custody of our one year old son. To seemingly cover her mistake, she attempted to convince me that I could still file on my husband. This did not seem right to me, so I contacted a different attorny for a second opinion. After I was educated me on Divorce Law I made the decision to leave Ms. Schleifer?s firm. I called her to inform her of this and I asked her to send my reimbursement check to my new attorney. She agreed. Some time later, I contacted my new lawyer regarding my case and was informed that they had not received the money. My lawyer contacted Ms. Schleifer on my behalf, and Ms. Schleifer lied to my lawyer saying that the conversation between myself and her had not occurred, which I find odd as I was billed $60.00 for this conversation. Finally, I received a check for $3530.00. Ms. Schleifer was unwilling to compromise on the price of her disappointing service. After the lengthy ordeal, I was willing to settle for that amount. However, Ms. Schleifer, for reasons unknown to me, placed a stop payment on that check. The money was retracted from my bank account, and I accrued fees in the process. Ms. Schleifer, at no time attempted to contact me to inform me that a stop payment was in process, though why one would be initiated is beyond my understanding. I am in desperate need of that money. I had to borrow it from my family when this terrible situation began, and now I am running out of financial options. Divorce is always an emotional process, but Ms. Schleifer has added to my distress. Think carefully before employing Ms. Schleifer, you would be wise to go elsewhere.
