Brief Reviews: Do not go to Wiles-Smith for notary service! The unfriendly man who runs this drug store should be stripped of his notary public certification. Here is what happened: I am my disabled mothers co-conservator, and for more than 10 years, I have had to have her legal papers notarized. Notary publics are supposed to look solely at the pages that need signing and not pry into the content of the paperwork. Their job is to verify your signature -- not to scrutinize your legal documents. Rather than simply notarizing the one page of my legal document that needed notarization, the man who owns the drugstore sifted through all of my legal papers, which included my disabled mother's sensitive bank information. Upon seeing my mothers name within the paperwork, he said he could not notarize my signature unless she was present. I explained that my mother is disabled, and while the paperwork concerns her, there was no need for her to be there to sign. That should have clearly been evident to him by the fact that there was no spot on the legal papers that called for her notarized signature. I am my moms conservator BECAUSE she is unable to do things like sign her own legal papers. The idea that she would need to be there to sign or in any way help to authorize my signature is ludicrous. Then, upon seeing a separate signature page for my mothers co-conservator, the man at Wiles-Smith said he could not notarize the form unless the co-conservator was present. That is ridiculous too because I was not asking him to notarize her signature, only mine. Once I have my portion of the legal papers done, I send the papers to the co-conservator, she has her signature notarized, and then she sends the paperwork to the courts. The court would not accept the paperwork unless both she and I have our signatures notarized separately. It wasn't his task to make sure that my legal papers were in order, only to make sure that MY signature was legitimate. It's frustrating enough to be the legal guardian of another adult, with all the paperwork that it entails. To have someone like the man at Wiles-Smith deny his notary service without good reason wastes time, and it's galling. I'm not sure if it will make a difference, but I plan to file a complaint with the group that gave him his post.
